Most installations take 3–5 days in our Telford workshop. We’ll give you a confirmed timeframe when we quote — and we stick to it.
01 Consultation & Vehicle Inspection

We assess: Your van model, roof condition, any rust or previous damage, your budget and preferences. We’ll recommend the right brand and canvas option for your specific van — not just the most expensive one.
02 Pop-Top Selection & Quote
Full itemised quote provided
We agree: Brand, canvas colour, bed configuration, any additional options (LED Halo kit, roof bars, lighting). You receive a clear, itemised quote before any work begins. No surprises.
03 Preparation & Roof Strip
Day 1
We remove: Interior headlining, any roof-mounted components, and mark the cutting lines precisely using manufacturer templates. The interior is fully protected from debris before any cutting begins.
04 Roof Cut & Pop-Top Fitting
Days 2–4
We cut, bond & seal: Roof section removed using manufacturer templates. Pop-top test-fitted, then bonded with structural adhesive. Lifting mechanism installed, canvas fitted and tensioned correctly. Pressure-tested for leaks before any trim work begins.
05 Finishing & Handover
Day 5
We finish & demonstrate: Internal trim fitted, bed boards and mattress installed, lighting connected. We walk you through how to raise and lower the roof, canvas tensioning, and routine maintenance — then hand you a van you’re proud of.

How long does pop-top installation take?
Typically 3 to 5 days in our Telford workshop. Day 1 is preparation and interior strip. Day 2 is the roof cut. Days 3 and 4 are fitting, bonding, and sealing. Day 5 is finishing, pressure-testing, and handover. We’ll confirm the exact timeframe when we quote.
Which Pop Top Brand is best for my van?
It depends on your van model, budget, and what you want from the pop-top. Storm is proven and reliable. Westdubs offers great value with UK support. Skyline is premium build quality with excellent insulation. ATEK is the specialist choice for Crafter vans. We’ll advise honestly during your free consultation — we’re not tied to pushing one brand over another.
Are pop-tops waterproof?
Yes — when installed correctly. We follow manufacturer procedures precisely, use the correct bonding agents and sealants, and pressure-test every installation before we touch the interior trim. Your pop-top will not leak. A leaking pop-top is almost always the result of poor installation, not a poor product.
Can I use a pop-top in winter?
Yes. All the brands we install use insulated canvas designed for year-round use. The pop-top seals well when closed and handles UK winters without issue. Pair with a diesel heater and your van is a warm, comfortable base in any season.
How much extra weight does a pop-top add?
Typical pop-top weight: 60–80kg
This includes:
- Pop-top mechanism and frame

- Bed boards and mattress
- Internal trim
Impact on payload:
- Modest (less than adding two adults)
- Usually fine on most vans
- We’ll check your specific payload capacity
Can I fit a pop-top to a high-roof van?
Technically possible, but rarely done.
Reasons:
- High-roof already has standing height (pop-top less essential)
- More complex installation (higher roof structure)
- Limited pop-top options for high-roof
Better alternatives for high-roof:
- Fixed skylights for light and ventilation
- Roof windows
- Standard conversion without pop-top
Can you fit a pop-top to my existing conversion?
Yes — this is called a retrofit installation, and we do them regularly. We’ll inspect your roof for rust or previous damage, remove existing headlining, cut and fit the pop-top, and rebuild the internal trim to match your existing conversion. Get in touch with your van details and we’ll advise.
What's the difference between scissor-lift and SWB/LWB pop-tops?
Scissor-lift (most common):
- Roof rises via scissor mechanism
- Stable and proven design
- Used by Storm, Westdubs, Skyline
SWB (Short Wheelbase) vs LWB (Long Wheelbase):
- Refers to vehicle length, not pop-top type
- Pop-top size matches vehicle (LWB vans get longer pop-tops)
- All use same lifting mechanisms
Can I have roof bars with a pop-top?
Yes — but specific to pop-top model.
Options:
- Some pop-tops have integrated roof bars
- Some require aftermarket brackets
- Load capacity varies by pop-top

Will A pop-top affect my vehicle warranty
Potentially — any structural modification can affect manufacturer warranty. However, the vast majority of campervans are outside their factory warranty period. Pop-tops are also a standard campervan modification. We’ll discuss the implications for your specific van during consultation so you can make an informed decision.
